OYT North Training is a standalone, seamanship and sailing school recognised by the Royal Yachting Association to deliver a range of RYA Shorebased, RYA Yachtmaster (Cruising Scheme) and RYA Powerboat courses.
The school was established with the aim of providing high quality training, onshore and at sea, for our Friends and volunteers. It will also serve as a means of recruiting new members into the OYT North family. How to volunteer
It has been made possible by the most generous donation of our new yacht Lene Sono, a Rival 34, which arrived last November and will be based at Royal Quays Marina. She will be administered by the school and used to run formal RYA courses and shorter OYT North Practical Seamanship courses. She will also be available for charter by volunteers who are registered as a Friend of Ocean Youth Trust North.
OYT North Training will concentrate on adult training and will be run separately from, but alongside, Ocean Youth Trust North (Sail Training) which maintains its focus on the personal development of young people on board James Cook. The school will be run from our office in Royal Quays by existing staff.
As well as enhancing the professional development of our volunteers and staff we would also like to thank them for giving up their time for the benefit of our young crews.
To this end we have established OYT North Volunteer Rewards, a scheme which rewards our volunteers in proportion to the amount of volunteering they do on James Cook either on sail training voyages or during winter refit.
